OUTDOOR
ADVENTURER
Be prepared, Brownies! Learn what to wear and what to eat in the
outdoors. We’ll read a trail map as we hike, find shelter,
and use our senses to lead the way. |
|
PLANTS
Brownies will investigate plants by studying seeds, making leaf
rubbings, and going on a Tree Trek. We’ll start activities
1 and 3; Brownies will complete these activities at home to earn
the Try-It. |

EARTH
CONNECTIONS
Juniors will take a closer look at an ecosystem through a plot study.
We’ll discover what plants and animals are all around us using
magnifiers and binoculars and our five senses. Juniors will also
get their hands dirty sampling soil, and search for microclimates
within the study area. Then we’ll spend an hour on the trail.
We’ll use simple field guides to identify trees, look at growth
rings, find signs of succession, and learn to recognize some native
plants. |
|
WILDLIFE
Be a field biologist for a day and find out how scientists learn
about plants and animals. We’ll start with a talk about how
living things are classified, and play a game to see how birds use
specialized beaks to survive. Then we’ll head outdoors with
Discovery Packs loaded with field journals, binoculars, magnifiers,
and other tools to observe and sketch the living things we find. |

ROCKS
ROCK
Junior geologists will investigate soil samples and start a rock
collection to earn this badge. Then we’ll break open mock
rocks to find hidden treasures, or make a fossil. Juniors will go
home with their own rock guides to help identify rocks from their
collections. |
|
OILS UP!
Oil spill! Juniors will need to be good problem solvers to meet
this challenge – finding a way to clean up a simulated oil
spill. We’ll find out how oil affects wildlife, and how plants
and animals from long ago became the oil we use today. Juniors will
finish with a home survey to find out what petroleum products they
use every day. |

Program Information |

|
|
| WILD
Jersey programs are designed for small groups to offer the best
experience for Girl Scouts. However, to keep program costs affordable,
combined troop programs are encouraged. |
| |
|
|
| For
guided hikes and Badge/Try-It programs, group size is limited to
25 girls (not including troop leaders and other adults). Other programs
may accommodate larger groups; please ask about maximum group size
when scheduling the program. |
| |
|
|
| WILD
Jersey brings the program to you (or to the location of your choice).
Many programs can be held at your regular troop meeting place. Programs
can also be offered at just about any park or outdoor site open
to the public. If you have a location in mind, or need advice on
a good site for a program, please include this in your inquiry. |
| |
| Programs
are not limited to the offerings listed here. If you have a particular
topic or activity that you would like covered, please ask! |

& Rain Dates |
|
|
| |
|
|
| Girls
should be appropriately prepared for the weather, as outdoor programs
will only be cancelled for severe inclement weather. However, if
I am unable to provide a rain date in this event, your deposit will
be refunded in full. If you cancel your program for any other reason,
deposits will only be refunded when you do so 14 days or more before
your scheduled program. You may also elect to apply the deposit
to a future program (good for up to 1 year). |
